Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Inaugurates Dubna Iron Ore Mines, IT & Green Energy Projects on OMC’s 70th Foundation Day

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the “Operation of Dubna Iron Ore Mines at Barbil in Keonjhar district” and launched key IT and Green Energy projects on the occasion of Odisha Mining Corporation’s 70th Foundation Day. The ceremony was at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar in the esteemed presence of the Shri Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Hon’ble Minister of Steel & Mines; Smt. Anu Garg, Development Commissioner, Odisha; Shri Surendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to Govt., Dept. of Steel & Mines and Shri Sudhansu Mohan Samal Managing Director OMC.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi said, “OMC is a key driver of Odisha’s economic growth and Vision 2036. With its rich raw material base, we aim to make Odisha a leading manufacturing hub by boosting downstream industries. We plan to set up more ore beneficiation and pelletisation plants to strengthen our industrial ecosystem and generate more employment. Our strong Ease of Doing Business environment continues to attract major investments. I commend OMC’s dedicated workforce for their vital role in the state’s development.”

Highlighting OMC’s role in transforming Odisha’s industrial sector, Hon’ble Steel & Mines Minister Shri Bibhuti Bhushan Jena said, “OMC is not just extracting minerals—it’s building the foundation of a self-reliant, industrial Odisha. With increased production, digital innovation, and environment protection, OMC is setting new benchmarks in growth and sustainability.”

The Dubna Mines was inaugurated that boasts of an annual capacity of 3 Million Tonnes Iron ore and 0.05 Million Tonnes Manganese. The mine has a reserve of 25.77 Million Tonnes Iron Ore and 2.6 Million Tonnes Manganese. This was followed by inauguration of power supply to Tiringpahar Mines and Rengalbeda RR Colony in Barbil region along with a 920 kwp solar power plant, installed across OMC’s mines in the Barbil and Koira regions.

The four IT platforms launched to streamline company’s operations include Logistics Management System (LMS) for transparent and secure management of ore production and dispatch, OMC Plotwise Land Use System (OPLUS) for smart land monitoring and data bank solution, OMC Finance Management System (OFMS) for streamlined and transparent banking and financial operations and OMC Recruitment Management System (ORMS) for efficient, merit-based hiring.

Further, OMC’s organisational level annual awards in three categories including Best Region, Best Mines and Safest Mines were presented by Hon’ble Chief Minister. A Booklet on OMC’S CSR initiatives “Touching Lives – OMC’s Social Commitment” was also launched during the occasion.

Additionally, a special photo exhibition was curated during the event, showcasing OMC’s best industry practices, sustainability initiatives, and remarkable achievements over the past year.

It is pertinent to mention that in FY 2024-25 OMC surpassed its own records by registering highest ever minerals production of 40.2 million tonnes in the Financial Year 2024-25, comprising 35.7 MT of iron, 1.37 MT of chrome and 3.00 MT of bauxite ores among minerals mined. The Corporation has also achieved a significant 43.41 million tonnes of Sales in the last fiscal.

The event concluded with a reaffirmation of OMC’s resolve to harness innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth to contribute meaningfully to Odisha’s industrial progress. Among others, present were senior officials and employees of OMC.
