International Day of Yoga (IDY): 100 Days, 100 Cities, 100 Organisations

Ministry of Ayush, Government of India has taken the lead in organising 10 editions of International Day of Yoga (IDY), which gathered great enthusiasm and support across the globe. The practice started with a resolution adopted by the United Nations in 2014, based on a suggestion made earlier by Shri Narendra Modi Ji, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. All over the world, the acceptability of Yoga has been enhanced to the extent that the Yoga is being accepted as a ‘way of life’.

To escalate the on-going activities related to IDY celebration, the Ministry has taken up the programme of conducting countdown activities starting from 100 days to IDY since last 3 years. This programme is named as “100 Days, 100 Cities, 100 Organisations”. This year also the Ministry, through Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) is planning the same activity.

Accordingly, the applications are invited from the eligible organisations to organise one day countdown programme are invited from the eligible Organisations and the selected Organisations will be given a sum of Rs. 2.00 lakhs as a financial contribution after the event (re-imbursement basis). The terms of guidelines & application format are as under:

The 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY 2026) will be celebrated on Sunday, June 21, 2026, focusing on holistic health, well-being, and prevention-focused living, as established by the United Nations. The 2026 campaign emphasizes themes like “Yoga for Self & Society” and women’s empowerment.Key details for 2026 include:100-Day Countdown: Initiated by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) featuring “Yoga 365” live sessions.

Main Events: Large-scale events are planned nationwide, including major activities in Leh, Ladakh.Theme Focus: The Ministry of Ayush is organizing activities around the 12th International Day of Yoga, aiming to enhance awareness and encourage active participation, as detailed in the CBSE circular.Activities: The celebrations include a Yog Geet/Jingle contest and the Yoga 365 initiative.Global Participation: The event is marked globally to promote physical and mental health.

Eligibility criteria:
Govt. Organizations/ Ministry of Ayush Autonomous organisations/ Universities/ Colleges/ Schools/ YCB accredited Organisations/ Armed Forces/ CAPF/ NGOs registered on Darpan portal of NITI Ayog/ Recognised Trade Organisations (like Chambers of Commerce)/ Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan (NYKS)/ Group Housing Society/ Resident Welfare Associations, fulfilling the following conditions, will be eligible for financial assistance:
a.
The Organization shall be registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 or respective State Registration Act or as a Trust under Indian Trust Act, 1882. (Not applicable in case of Govt. Organisations).
b.
The Organization should have at least of three years of experience after registration.
c.
The Organization should have minimum basic infrastructure facilities and be capable of arranging adequate technical and non-technical staff to conduct the event.
d.
Priority will be give to Organisations with prior experience in conducting Yoga related events.
