Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and New Delhi are being considered as one of the host cities.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formally approved the country’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games 2030.
The decision was taken during the IOA’s Special General Meeting (SGM) in New Delhi on Wednesday.
India had already submitted an Expression of Interest to host the CWG 2030 and now has until August 31 to file the final bid proposal.
“I am happy that all are together and it was a unanimous decision and our preparations will go ahead. We can’t just tell whether Ahmedabad is the host city. We have good facilities in Bhubaneswar and even in Delhi also,” IOA President PT Usha said after the meeting.
Barring India, Nigeria, Canada and two other countries had also reportedly expressed interest to host the multi-sport event. However, Canada withdrew from the race in June this year.
A team of officials from Commonwealth Sport, led by Director of Games Darren Hall, recently visited Ahmedabad to inspect proposed venues and meet Gujarat government representatives. A larger delegation is expected later this month.
The final host nation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games will be decided by the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport in the last week of November in Glasgow.

India has previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2010, staging the event in New Delhi.
New Delhi 2010 remains the only time India won more than 100 medals at any single edition of CWG.
It was also the country’s most successful campaign in the CWG to date, with the home athletes finishing with a total of 101 medals, including 38 golds, to finish second on the medals tally.
The country’s second-best haul is 69 medals, including 30 golds, at Manchester 2002.
The Commonwealth Games, first hosted in 1930, will see its 24th edition play out in 2030. The last edition was held in Birmingham, UK, in 2022 and the upcoming one is scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2026.
At CWG 2022, Indian athletes won 61 medals – 22 golds, 16 silvers and 23 bronze.
CWG 2026 Glasgow will be a scaled-down edition with several sports like hockey, badminton, wrestling and shooting cut from the programme.
IOA officials have, however, confirmed that they will strive to make the 2030 edition a full-fledged affair should India win the bid. Joint secretary Kalyan Chaubey has also batted for the inclusion of indigenous sports like kho kho, kabaddi and others.
